However, certain individuals may need to be screened earlier than that, including those with inflammatory bowel disease (e.g., Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis), familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (Lynch syndrome), or a personal or family history of colon cancer or polyps. Likewise, the American Cancer Society recommends that prostate cancer screenings begin at age 50 for men who are at average risk for developing the malignancy, and earlier for men with a higher risk.
